Travel funding for the RSE meetup

We are happy to announce that we will have a limited amount of travel funding available for RSEs and RSE enthusiasts to join the meetup!

The travel funding is provided by the Software Sustainability Institute (SSI, https://www.software.ac.uk) via a members SSI fellowship 2025 on community building around Nordic-RSE (https://www.software.ac.uk/fellowship-programme/samantha-wittke).

Who can apply?

We are committed to fostering and supporting a diverse, equitable and inclusive research software community. We especially welcome applications from those living outside the Helsinki area who could not attend without travel support.

How to apply?

The funding application is lightweight and only a few questions, no need to write novels. If granted, meant to cover your travel expenses as well as one night of accomodation, up to 300 € per individual for up to 5 individuals.

For the funding application you will need to provide the following information (short and clear):

  • Name, affiliation, e-mail address

  • What do you hope to gain by attending?

  • What do you hope to contribute by attending?

  • A Rough breakdown of estimated travel and accomodation costs (max 300€)

  • Anything else you would like us to know?

Apply for travel funding by sending the above mentioned information via e-mail to samantha.wittke@csc.fi with the subject “RSE-FI travel funding application”.

Application will be open until December 19 2025. Acceptance notifications will be sent out before Christmas.

Review and reimbursement process

The applications will be reviewed by the SSI fellow Samantha Wittke and supported by the SSI if needed. Once you are granted travel funding, you may book travel and accomodation yourself, and do the reimbursement directly with the SSI. Please note that we cannot reimburse via organizations, only personal. You will need to fill out a short form with personal and banking info and provide receipts and bank statements for all purchases. Please choose the most economical option possible (prefer public transport in 2nd class, medium class hotel, etc.). Instructions with link to reimbursement form will be sent later to the grant recipients.
